Nine fires of low to moderate intensity broke out across several Paris arrondissements during the night from Thursday to Friday. The incidents affected cellars, offices, two night-time venues and an association’s premises. No one was killed, but three people suffered minor smoke inhalation. The Paris Fire Brigade stresses that no single method is currently apparent. Several fires appear to have been accidental, while others may have been started deliberately. Their simultaneous occurrence has nevertheless fuelled speculation about coordinated action. The police prefecture is urging people not to draw premature conclusions. Safety inspections have been ordered at several night venues. The owners involved say they have no connection to one another. Some files, however, reveal complex financial arrangements, which may lead investigators to examine possible commercial disputes as well.
