The investigation into the disappearance of two officers from the Office français de la biodiversité in Rambouillet forest has taken an unexpected turn.
According to a source close to the case, the work phone of Nicolas Ferrand, an environmental technician missing since the night from Sunday to Monday, was reportedly reactivated several hours after his disappearance. The device was then reportedly located several times in the Paris region.
Several calls were allegedly made from the phone to numbers with no apparent connection to the OFB’s professional activities. Investigators are now trying to determine whether the device was recovered by a third party, stolen after the events or deliberately used to throw them off the trail.
A person living in the Paris region was also reportedly interviewed after receiving and returning one of those calls. That person is not considered a suspect at this stage.
The services handling the investigation have declined to comment on the precise geolocation data.
The disappearance of Claire Vautrin and Nicolas Ferrand remains unexplained. Their bodies have still not been found.
For investigators, one question has now become central: who could have had Nicolas Ferrand’s phone after his disappearance?
