The disappearance of two officers from the Office français de la biodiversité in the Yvelines is taking an increasingly complex turn.

The vehicle used by Claire Vautrin and Nicolas Ferrand, sought for several hours as part of the investigation, was found destroyed after leaving the Rambouillet area. The exact circumstances of its destruction have not been disclosed.

According to several corroborating sources, investigators were attempting to reconstruct the vehicle’s route using road and private video-surveillance systems. Several cameras that could have recorded its passage reportedly stopped working during a period close to the one under review.

No formal link has been established between those failures.

Investigators nevertheless have other possible sources: phone data, traffic records, automatic number-plate recognition systems and witness accounts.

The accumulation of incidents is now puzzling the services handling the search. A police source has nevertheless declined to draw any dramatic conclusion.

“For now, we have two missing people and several anomalies. An anomaly is not an explanation.”

Searches continue in Rambouillet forest while veterinary analyses of the six wild boar found dead nearby are still pending.
