La Familia

La Familia is an old human community rooted in eastern Paris. A clandestine minority known as the Venator maintains a memory and prohibitions the Praxis approaches with caution.

La Familia is an old human community whose memory preserved traces of the supernatural long after the first witnesses died. Its modern form emerged around 1819 and gradually took root in eastern Paris.

Eight major lineages, strong endogamy, archives and prohibitions passed between generations have made it difficult to infiltrate. The Venator grew from this memory, but remain only a clandestine minority within a broader family community.

A memory that does not die

The community's roots are religious, familial and defensive. During the nineteenth century, the lineages gradually closed in on themselves, turning stories into verifiable habits: a name to avoid, a house never to sell, an hour when one does not go out, an archive only a relative may consult.

Each receives a rule, a fragment of history or a responsibility. The whole survives because the practices remain useful even when their origin becomes uncertain.

The eight lineages

The lineages distribute property, alliances, professions, archives and responsibilities. Endogamy protects some secrets, but also feeds old resentments and makes every family crisis immediately political.

Most members live human lives, follow inherited precautions and do not know the complete structure of what protects them. This social depth is La Familia's strongest defence.

The Venator

During the nineteenth century, a clandestine branch formed around vigilance, observation and protection. The Venator learned to recognise anomalies, pass information without revealing everything and act through compartmentalised cells.

Hunting is not their only response. They watch, move a threatened person, close access, preserve evidence or wait. Violence divides the community: to some it protects, to others it attracts the very danger once avoided.

An armed coexistence

An old non-aggression pact with Villon stabilised relations. Its precise date is not fixed in the current canon. It is not an alliance with the Camarilla. The Praxis refrains from certain provocations; La Familia accepts limits; each retains its means of defence.

This coexistence endures because open war would cost both sides too much. It erases neither disappearances nor suspicion, nor the certainty that each side prepares for the night when the agreement no longer suffices.

The fracture of 2024

At Halloween 2024, the death of an important patriarchal figure's daughter breaks the balance. Some Venator begin hunting human agents and sabotaging some Second Inquisition operations.

Three attitudes run through the community. The Conservatives want to preserve the families and old pact. The Avengers believe restraint has cost one life too many. The Survivors seek to prevent the war of a few from taking everyone else with it.

Relations

Relations with the Camarilla remain governed by a wary non-aggression pact, with Villon as its principal guarantor. With La Calcédoine, it has become hostile. The Anarchs may offer contacts without La Familia adopting their politics. Harbinger of Sade belongs to a memory of predation against which old prohibitions retain their meaning.

What Paris says

Some families may preserve archives no one has ever managed to buy.
The Venator may be fewer than their reputation suggests, but better prepared.
Prohibitions whose origins no one remembers may still have saved lives.
The pact with Villon may endure less through trust than through fear of its collapse.
