The Rosaire de Saint-Martin, whose absence had raised many questions since Notre-Dame reopened, was found this morning around the neck of the Vierge du Pilier.
Worshippers attending dawn Mass were the first to notice its return. Cathedral officials confirmed that it was indeed the expected object, without explaining for now how it had been put back.
The rosary has long been associated with traditions of protection and several pious stories. Its prolonged disappearance had prompted questions among worshippers and specialists in religious heritage.
Cathedral authorities say the object must be examined and that its conservation arrangements will be strengthened. No comment has been made on the identity of the person who may have returned it.
Some worshippers see the rosary’s return as a miracle. For the institution, a simpler question remains unanswered: how did the object return to the Vierge du Pilier without its movement being reported?
