A private mansion in the Marais, regularly hired for private receptions and cultural events, closed its doors this week with no timetable for reopening. Several bookings scheduled through mid-March were cancelled within a matter of hours. According to the management company, a series of technical inspections revealed faults in the electrical installations and video surveillance system. Contractors who were on site nevertheless describe an unusually rapid night-time move, during which furniture, archives and computer equipment were removed. The arrondissement town hall says it issued no administrative closure order. Two private security companies also reportedly had their contracts terminated. No incident was reported to the police. Local residents are questioning what really took place at a venue known for hosting highly discreet evenings. Management insists the closure is merely a precaution and says a new programme will be announced once the assessments are complete.
