France / Four great domains
The four Marquisates
Four titles recognised by Paris. Four ways not to become Paris.
Lyon, Bordeaux, Lille and Strasbourg belong to the same political architecture without sharing the same method. Their autonomy does not consist in ignoring Villon, but in administering territory the Paris Court could not rule from afar.
A Marquis is neither a nocturnal prefect nor a minor independent Prince. The title entails reciprocal recognition: Paris guarantees the domain's place in the Hegemony; the domain takes responsibility for its routes, conflicts, Masquerade and succession.

A Court, not a solitary Marquis
Gaspard de la Croix
Ventrue / Marquis since 2012
Born into late nineteenth-century provincial minor nobility, Gaspard learned that titles no longer sufficed: investment, advisory work and private debt preserved influence better. After his Embrace he spent decades handling contracts, travel, access and continuity of services. Unglamorous problems prepared him to govern when the previous holder answered the Beckoning.
Claudine Beaumont
Toréador / Keeper of Elysiums and patron
Keeper of Lyon’s Elysiums and a patron of the arts, Claudine began in textiles and applied design. She connects artists, wealth and cultural venues without seeking to become the face of every success. Her relationship with Gaspard combines respect and watchfulness: he protects an authority whose public standing she helps sustain.
René Vallier
Nosferatu / Infrastructure and passage
René was a technician and then an urban networks engineer before his Embrace in 1936. In Lyon, he works with the infrastructure and passages on which the Domain’s circulation depends. He distrusts claims to know every underground space: his influence rests on experience and human relationships, not a miraculously complete map.
Marie-Anne Savoy
Malkavian / Counsellor on disruptions and patterns
Embraced in 1887, Marie-Anne is the oldest of the five central figures in Lyon’s Marquisate. Her influence depends on no formal office. Accustomed to figures, schedules and correspondence since mortal life, she observes changes in rhythm and collective patterns. Gaspard benefits from her voluntary support without her intuitions becoming unquestionable commands.
Louis Beauchamp
Banu Haqim / Provost, investigation and security
Provost of Lyon’s Marquisate, Louis comes from law and investigation. He oversees serious Masquerade violations, crimes between Kindred and the security of audiences. He is not Gaspard’s appointed killer: he asks for evidence and identifiable responsibility before a matter can be considered settled.

What Paris recognises
Recognition concerns an authority, a capacity for continuity and relationships that already exist. It does not draw an absolute border on a human map. Secondary domains and neighbouring interlocutors may be tied to a Marquisate in one matter and negotiate directly in another.
02 / The four Marquisates
What each domain retains
Each has its customs, central institution and memory. The Table des Deux Rives does not resemble the Chamber of Inheritances. The Council of Borderlands would not work in Strasbourg, where the Chamber of Versions answers sovereignties that overlap without coinciding.
03 / The four Marquisates
The price of continuity
These structures protect domains against an elder's absence, but create weaknesses of their own. A relay can be observed, an inheritance can become a chain, redundancy can multiply traces, and the best-preserved version can end up in the wrong hands.
