02 / Identity

A place of light, religious memory and enduring strangeness at the heart of the most visible Paris.

03 / Nocturnal reading

At the Sainte-Chapelle, heritage, religion and public representation occupy the same space. The monument receives visitors, institutions and specialists; very little that happens there can remain discreet.

Vassago, an ancient and solitary Gargoyle, is associated with the monument. Younger Kindred might mistake it for an unusually convincing sculpture for quite some time. Their elders know only that its presence has been tolerated for so long that no one gives the same reason for the arrangement anymore.

Its age grants it neither a seat, a Domain nor an office. Vassago is not a Keeper of Elysium, an officer of François Villon or the representative of a Gargoyle faction. Its origin and motives remain unknown. The Praxis knows it is there, but has never given it a status.
