The night endured human history before making its own memory from it.

Kindred did not cause the Albigensian Crusade or great human massacres to settle their affairs. They endured sieges, closed roads, destroyed havens and transformed stories.

1209 and 1244

Béziers in 1209 and Montségur in 1244 impose a memory in which human catastrophe cannot serve as scenery. The Court recalls this limit when nocturnal legends seek to appropriate the dead.

Resisting centres

Across the centuries, southern authorities negotiate with Paris without allowing that relationship to erase their own continuities. Present independence results from long practice, not a single proclamation.
